Abstract

This study presents selected episodes from the history of the Franciscan monastery in Mediaș between the two World Wars. Based mainly on the Historia domus, it highlights the pastoral, educational, cultural, and social activities of the Franciscan community during a period marked by political change, economic hardship, ethnic tensions, and institutional challenges. The article discusses the development of parish life, the fate of the Franciscan school, church renovations, spiritual associations, and social initiatives such as the Pax Savings and Credit Cooperative. It also shows how the Franciscans sought to preserve Catholic and Hungarian communal identity while responding to the needs of an industrializing and multiethnic town.
