History of the Journal
The history of StThTr dates back to its inception in 2000. Originally founded (by Prof. Dr. József Marton and S.E.R. László Kerekes) as a platform for scholarly discourse within the theological community in the Archdiocese of Alba Iulia and Transylvania, the journal has evolved over the years to become a reputable source for high-quality research in the field of theology in the Hungarian-speaking area of the Carpathian Basin.
Since its establishment, StThTr has been dedicated to publishing original research articles, unpublished sources from Transylvanian Church history, and book reviews that contribute to the advancement of theological knowledge. It has served as a vital forum for scholars, researchers, and students to engage in interdisciplinary dialogue and explore various topics within biblical, historical, systematic, and practical theology. Over time, the journal has expanded its scope to include contributions from related disciplines, further enriching the academic discourse within the field of theology.
The journal was initially published by the Theological College of Alba Iulia. Between 2018 and 2021, it was jointly published by the Szent István Society in Budapest and Verbum in Cluj-Napoca.
Since 2022, the journal has been published by Jel Könyvkiadó in Budapest. At that time, a peer review process was introduced to further ensure the quality of the published research. The development of StThTr continued in 2024 with the implementation of an open access policy, making StThTr's content freely accessible to a global audience.
Throughout its history, StThTr has remained steadfast in its mission to promote theological research in the Hungarian-speaking world and beyond as well. With each issue, it continues to uphold its reputation.
